Si può giocare a Quake4 su Mandriva? se si Come?

Mi date qualche informazione? è possibile fare girare un gioco win sotto Linux? nello specifico con la distro Mandriva 2007?

Non sono sicuro che si possa giocare a quake 4, ma sono invece sicuro che se hai un processore x86, su linux hanno già fatto l'installer per doom3, che usa lo stesso motore grafico.
Quindi non ti posso garantire nulla (anche perchè è da un po' che nn mi tengo aggiornato sull'argomento), ma è molto probabile che faranno anche l'installer per quake 4.
Questi giochi gireranno quindi nativi su linux e non dovrai ricorrere ad altri software (vedi wine, cedega o peggio emulatori di console).
Concludendo con linux si può giocare con molti giochi per windows, il problema è capire se questi giochi possono girare nativi su linux o meno.
Appena posso ti mando alcuni link, ma sono sicuro che con una buona ricerca su google (www.google.com/linux ) troverai tutto quello che cerchi.

...oppure si può installare virtualbox ( http://www.virtualbox.org/ ) installarci Win e poi installare i giochi....è superfluo dire che il PC dovrà essere abbastanza potente al fine di far funzionare egregiamente questo insieme di "scatole cinesi".

P.S.:Questa soluzione non l'ho mai provata perché non uso Win e non ho installato Win in nessun PC.

Quake 4 c'è anche per linux, io l' ho provato e funziona. Mi sembra che quake supporti linux da parecchio tempo.

Ciao,
come giustamente detto da Magic, Quake 4 per linux c'è e funziona egregiamente da parecchio, e anche i precedenti quake/doom sono supportati, la idSoftware è stata una delle prime società a fare i porting per linux.

Comunque, per far funzionare Quake4 l'operazione è semplice, ti basta scaricare l'installer per linux dall'ftp ufficiale della idSoftware ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/ il file preciso dovrebbe essere questo ma non ho tempo di provare ora ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake4/linux/quake4-linux-1.3-2.x86.run.
Una volta scaricato il file ti basta assegnarli i permessi di esecuzione ed eseguirlo, scegliere la cartella dove installare e leggere il readme che troverai installato nella cartella scelta.

NOTA: questo procedimento installa solo i binari per linux, non i file del gioco vero e proprio, quelli, come leggerai nel readme, li DEVI copiare dal cd/dvd in una sottodirectory.

NOTA2: contrariamente a quanto dice il readme, per avere il gioco in italiano (di default è inglese), assicurati di aver copiato tutti i file pk4, compreso quello della lingua italiana, esegui il gioco una prima volta e immetti il seriale per sbloccarlo (mi raccomando, gioco originale altrimenti il programma si accorge che è copiato perchè si connette ad un server per il controllo dei seriali).
Dopo aver inserito il seriale e sbloccato il gioco esci, vai nella tua home, troverai una cartella chiamata .quake4 con dentro un file di configurazione e i salvataggi del gioco.
Apri il file di configurazione e con un bel trova e sostituisci rimpiazza english con italian.

NOTA3: se vuoi sbloccare subito la modalità nightmare senza finire il gioco sempre dallo stesso file di configurazione cerca la voce nightmare (di default a 0) e mettici valore 1

Altra nota su tutti gli installer della idsoftware (quake, doom, rtc, et etc...) su sistemi 64bit:
Spesso il file *.run (per * si intende il nome dell'installer) riporta che il sistema non è compatibile ma in realtà non è vero. Si risolve presto eseguendo l'installer con l'opzione --keep:

$ *.run --keep

Questo lascia la cartella scompattata contenuta nel file *.run; Nella cartella è sempre presente un file eseguibile tipo "setup.sh".
Aprendo il file,si modifica la parte che effettua i test del tipo di sistema:

case `uname -m` in
i?86 | i86*)
echo "x86"
status=0;;
90*/*)
echo "hppa"
status=0;;
*)

ad esempio sostituiamo i?86 con x86_64. Si esegue poi il setup.sh e il gioco funziona alla grande.

P.S. Quasi tutti gli installer sono fatti così, in realtà molto spesso il programma o gioco che sia gira benissimo poichè quasi sempre programmi del genere non hanno dipendenze ma non si installano per una cavolata come questa.
