Qual è il rischio? si può rompere il monitor vero?
Penso di aver provato tutte le combinazioni esistenti.. non c'è qualche altro driver che posso provare, una quaclhe soluzione? Mi devo realmente rassegnare a non poter avere linux per colpa del mio monitor schizzinoso?

Pensavo che ti si potesse "annerire" nuovamente lo schermo e poi dovevi ricominciare tutto.
Vedo se trovo qualcosa per te, se trovo lo posto qui.

Mi sa che la soluzione è davvero editare Xorg.conf.
Pero mi chiedo: nella parte riguardante il monitor, copio tutto come qui sopra.
nella parte rigurdante la scheda video? ( la mia è una radeon 9250) devo solo cambiare il nome della scheda video o modificare qualche altra cosa?
Spero solo di riuscire a modificare questo xorg.conf da solo (seguiro la guida cheho postato qualche post più sopra, se è sbagliata fatemi sapere!)

Allora... mi vergogno un pò a chiederlo, perchè so già che deve essere una cosa facilissima, ma ho cercato in tutte le guide, ed un pò sul forum (sicuramente non ho cercato bene)... non ho capito qual è il procedimento per editare Xorg.conf.
Se c'è qualche guida che lo spiega e che non sono riuscito a trovare vi chiedo se gentilmente potete indicarmela.
Sono proprio all'inizio, scusatemi se faccio domande stupide.

Io per editare file con i privilegi di root lancio da console il comandi:
su
#kwrite
Una volta aperto il programma KWrite basta andare nel menu File->Apri e cerchi il file che vuoi modificare (nel tuo caso dovrebbe essere /etc/X11/xorg.conf).
Ce l'ho fatta!!!
dopo aver cercato in lungo e in largo ed aver formattato e reinstallato Mandriva per 4 (quattro) volte, ho seguito il procedimento descritto in questo forum (post #10) : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=1465348#post1465348
Finalmente ho la risoluzione 1440x900 con depth 24!
Unico problema è che se attacco l'uscita tv al tv, ottengo solo delle strisce colorate, qualcono sa suggerirmi qualcosa per questo problema?
In ogni caso sono soddisfattissimo, ringrazio chi mi ha aiutato..
ci sentiamo presto per i problemi che inevitabilmente verranno fuori tra un pò

Salve a tutti,
ho avuto lo stesso problema con il mio monitor acer 1916w e seguendo i consigli di questo post sono riuscito ad ottenere la risoluzione di 1440x900.
Purtoppo dopo l'aggiornamento a mandriva 2007.1 spring l'unica risoluzione che va è 1280x1024, perchè non appena inserisco la risoluzione 1440x900 mi appare sullo schermo frequenza non supportata.
Qualcuno sa darmi qualche consiglio?
